Lama Thubten Yeshe was born in Tibet in 1935. At the age of six, Lama Yeshe entered Sera Monastic University in Tibet where he studied until 1959, when as Lama Yeshe himself said, "In that year, the Chinese kindly told us that it was time to leave Tibet and meet the outside world." Lama Thubten Yeshe met Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche during their exile in India and, together as teacher and disciple, met their first Western students in 1965. By 1971 they settled at Kopan, a small hamlet near Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1974, the lamas began teaching in the West, and eventually established The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. FPMT, as it is known today, has evolved to include a vast number of affiliated Dharma centers, study groups, monasteries, nunneries, and social service projects operating throughout the world. Lama Thubten Yeshe passed away in 1984.

This 9 ½”” high statue was sculpted by master artist Denise Griffin. The statue is gold plated with a brush gold painted face. An essential addition to all FPMT center gompas and for all those with a heart connection to Lama, this most beautiful statue is now made of lightweight resin for durability and convenient shipping.
