Sakya Initiations

Recently His Holiness Sakya Trizin said he was very happy with FPMT and is always impressed when he goes to one of our centers. His Holiness said that FPMT “is preserving the pure Dharma”. He said he was very grateful. He also said that he gets Mandala and enjoys reading it and hearing about all the many activities around the world – “Very inspiring,” His Holiness said.
For the next five years Lama Zopa Rinpoche and over 1000 Sangha will be receiving a rare collection of initiations from His Holiness Sakya Trizin in Dehradun, in the Himalayas.
The initiations are the Wangya Norbu Tangwa (Garlands of Jewels of Hundreds of Initiations) and are been given at Rinpoche's earnest request.
Preserving the Wangya Norbu Tangwa has become a matter of urgency as the lineage of some of the initiations has already died out in the Gelug tradition. Initially, Rinpoche and other Gelug Lamas, including Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche, received the first half of these initiations from His Eminence Chobgye Trichen Rinpoche in 1991, but age and poor health stopped him from giving the transmissions in their entirety.
While being the main sponsor of the initiations as well as the long life puja at the end of each year for His Holiness Sakya Trizin, Lama Zopa Rinpoche is also offering breakfast, lunch and dinner to all the Sangha for the duration of the initiations.

The costs to host the initiations in 2008 came to $43,000. In 2009 we estimate the cost at $38,000.
