MAITRI TB Treatment programme

  • MAITRI TB treatment programme has operated in the whole of Bodhgaya, Mohanpur, and Barachatti provinces and has been in operation since 1995.
  • MAITRI provides weekly drop-in clinics for TB patients at its centre near Dhandwa village, Bodhgaya.
  • MAITRI TB programme is currently restricted to poorer people in the area.
  • MAITRI provides free medical care, pathological tests, medicines, and nutritional supplements to the TB patients.
  • MAITRI also provides free clothing, blankets, and food supplies to the poorer TB patients.
  • MAITRI TB programme uses the services of a doctor who specialises in the treatment and eradication of tuberculosis.
  • MAITRI provides home monitoring of drugs intake through its local paramedical staff.
  • MAITRI is partially being supplied TB drugs by the government.

 

MAITRI TB treatment programme : measurable outcomes and impact

  • MAITRI has registered 735 cases of tuberculosis to date.
  • 605 TB patients have been successfully released from treatment.
  • MAITRI is currently treating 118 patients for TB.
  • The majority of TB patients come from the lower and poorer castes such as the Manjhis, Chaudharies, Ravidas.
  • MAITRI has provided free food to 202 TB patients.

MAITRI TB treatment programme : the road ahead

  • Since the treatment of TB has been integrated in the health government services in 2005, MAITRI has been offered by the Government of Bihar to participate in the RNTCP Programme (Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme ).
  • MAITRI has been offered to become a drug distribution unit for the surrounding villages and a microscope unit for sputum tests for an area of 100,000 population, in Bodhgaya province and to organize and supervise drug distribution at village level in 122 villages with population 69,180 in Bodhgaya, Mohanpur, and Barachatti provinces.
  • MAITRI would continue providing Humanitarian Aid to the poorer patients.
  • With your support TB patients from lower and impoverished castes in rural areas can continue to receive vital TB treatment including essential nutritional supplements.
