Basic Program Homestudy

Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of the growing number of students around the world now involved in the Basic Program! The Basic Program Homestudy series offers those who cannot attend the Basic Program in a center the option to study the subjects at home or with a study group and, if interested, qualify for the Basic Program Homestudy Completion Certificate.

The Homestudy series will offer the twelveBasic Program subjects in the following packages (updated October 2007):

Various FPMT centers and teachers are contributing to the series, thus offering you the opportunity to get to know several of our outstanding Basic Program teachers.

The different subjects can but do not have to be studied in the order listed here; it is important though to consider that the Lamrim will provide the overall context for the other subjects and for meditation practice throughout your studies. As a Basic Program student you are expected to have some experience of both Lamrim study and meditation; you need to be able to structure your own retreats and a daily or regular meditation practice. About the order of the subjects, and how to integrate meditation and practice with your homestudy you can read more here.

The Basic Program requires in-depth study that goes beyond introductory level. You can find more here about the level of prior study required in order to benefit most from participating in the Basic Program.

The Basic Program Conduct & Practice Info sheet gives an explanation of the Basic Program standard of practice and behavior with advice from Lama Zopa Rinpoche for all participating students.

The specific requirements for obtaining the optional Basic Program Homestudy Completion Certificate are outlined here.

In the FAQ you can find further information about what the study of the Basic Program entails and about the way the homestudy program works.

In each package you will find an Introductory CD-Rom with information about the materials provided, the subject and the teacher, and the accompanying course materials. Please note that the Introductory CD is a text CD that opens on your computer (not on a CD audio player).
