Buddhist Retreat Facilities and Schedules

FPMT retreat centers span the globe in a variety of beautiful locations, such as the Coromandel coast of New Zealand, the heart of the Italian Alps, and the California Redwoods. Several retreat centers also offer the opportunity to do buddhist retreats in the heart of the city. The following retreat centers offer everything from intensive meditation on Tibetan Buddhist practices to a relaxing enviroment for reflection and discovery. There are a number of currently scheduled retreats  at FPMT centers as well as Discovering Buddhism retreats for students of Tibetan Buddhism.

'Retreat' literally means to retreat from one's ordinary day to day concerns and view, and to give oneself the opportunity to focus on reality; away from ordinary distractions we can train our mind in the path to enlightenment.

The clear, pure, and blissful state of mind exists within each one of us right now. Yet the fact that we have this fundamentally pure nature does not mean that we are already enlightened. Until we rid ourselves of hatred, greed, jealousy and all the other symptoms of the false ego shrouding our mind, we are certainly not enlightened.

Discovering Buddhism Retreats for students of Tibetan Buddhism

What you think is a problem comes from your own mind; what you think is joyful comes from your own mind. Your happiness does not depend on anything external.

The foolish person seeks happiness outside, running around and keeping busy with that expectation. If you seek happiness outside yourself, you have no freedom, you always have problems, and you are never completely satisfied. You are unable to truly accomplish anything, unable to see reality clearly, and unable to judge correctly. If you seek happiness outside yourself, there are always so many problems… .By seeking happiness outside yourself, you will only become exhausted with suffering, which is without satisfaction and without end… Your happiness does not depend on anything external.
